How much of your time would you give to change a life?

Do Good to Feel Good by volunteering with St Helena

St Helena is offering a wide variety of volunteering opportunities, whether you’re looking to develop your CV, expand your skills, get out and meet new people or put your free time towards a good cause.

Satisfaction in volunteering is all about matching an individual’s skills, interests, passions, and personality with available opportunities. It’s thanks to the incredible enthusiasm, dedication and reliability of our volunteers that allows St Helena to provide vital end of life and bereavement services to local people across north east Essex.

What are the benefits of volunteering?

Volunteering offers many wellbeing and social benefits. It is a fantastic opportunity to develop professional skills, combat stress, improve your mental and physical wellbeing, socialise by meeting likeminded people and develop a sense of community.

Volunteering has been proven to reduce stress and anxiety by boosting dopamine levels, consequently creating an increased sense of happiness, gratitude and fulfilment. Many volunteers explain that their volunteer role gives them a feeling of purpose and gratitude, knowing that you are having a positive impact and making a real difference to your community by giving back.

Do I need to volunteer for a certain number of hours?

There are many roles available across St Helena and any amount of time you can offer is appreciated and incredibly valuable. It doesn’t matter if you can volunteer for four days a week or four hours a week. A few hours of your time can help change lives!

What roles can I volunteer in?

We have roles available across the organisation. Whether you are looking to volunteer in one of St Helena’s 22 shops across north east Essex; within the complementary therapy team; as part of the maintenance team; on the ward, or in one of the many other roles we have, there are a variety of roles available to suit your skills, interest and lifestyle. You can view our full array of volunteer vacancies here www.sthelena.org.uk/volunteer

If you have a specific skill or interest you would like to volunteer in which is not currently advertised, please get in touch to as we may have a suitable project or role available that you could help with. However, there are a number of roles that do not require any specific skills or experience.

How do I apply to volunteer?

We welcome applicants from all backgrounds, all skillsets, and all walks of life. To apply to volunteer please visit www.sthelena.org.uk/volunteer to fill in an application for one of our volunteer vacancies, or alternatively please email our volunteer services team at volunteer@sthelena.org.uk or call 01206 931 466 for more information.

An opportunity to make a real difference to your life and others

St Helena’s Voluntary Services Manager Wendy Marcon said: “No matter their role, our volunteers all contribute towards making a huge difference to the lives of patients, their families and the general running of our organisation. Volunteering has also proven beneficial for health and wellbeing and in a recent survey; over 80% of our volunteers have said they felt that volunteering significantly improved their mental and physical health and wellbeing.”

Volunteer with us to get motivated, gain new experiences, acquire new-found skills, improve your sense of wellbeing and meet wonderful people.
