We would like to thank everyone who attended one of our recent sessions or completed a questionnaire about the future of the hospice and things to be considered if a decision is made to provide more beds.
Sarah Green, Director of Income and Communications says: “We have received a great response from different groups including patients, families, supporters, volunteers and staff. We have also really appreciated the chance to hear the stories and strong feelings people have for St Helena Hospice.
“There are some key themes that are starting to emerge. The feedback has indicated that overall people are very supportive of the hospice ambition to provide more care and help more people across our local community. This is seen as a very positive way forward.”
From the feedback we received it has been clear that many people would like us to be mindful of the following as it consider our future plans:
• The importance of having a hospice that is recognised as being part of its local community.
• Many people have commented on the strong presence the hospice has in the Colchester community particularly. Some have supported the hospice over 30 years and wanted to express the importance of maintaining that support for the future.
• Protecting the ‘homely’ feel Myland Hall is known and loved for.
• Whether an additional site in the Tendring area would be better rather than just one new centrally located site.
• Ensuring any new site considered has appropriate public transport links and good accessibility.
The feedback will be shared with the Board of Trustees and will help shape the options for providing more beds. These options will be explored further over the coming months.
During the summer there will be a further opportunity for people to come and hear how plans are progressing.
