Hot on the heels of an award win at the National Fundraising Awards last month, the lottery team at St Helena have been shortlisted for a second award with Charity Times in the category of ‘Campaigning Team of the Year.’

The nomination recognises the achievements of the lottery team in proactively providing a new income stream for St Helena by building on their knowledge and expertise of running the successful Your Hospice Lottery and bringing a new lottery product, make a smile lottery to the charity sector raising vital funds for local causes across Great Britain.

Sarah Green, Director of Lottery Services at St Helena commented: “To win one national fundraising award is an honour, but to be on the shortlist for a second award is unbelievable! It just goes to show that being bold and taking risks can pay off! This is a competitive shortlist and we are just chuffed to have been named amongst some big movers and shakers in fundraising. It’s so humbling for our little team in Colchester to be recognised in this way, we could not have done it without the support of our amazing lottery partners who believed in us and made our dream a reality, thank you!”

St Helena has brought a hospice product to the charity sector for the very first time. With their new innovative approach they are bringing charities closer together to provide a new source of income and an introduction to new supporters, whilst at the same time generating new income for St Helena to address unmet need for hospice care in North Essex.

St Helena have used their lottery expertise and knowledge to not only raise over £9million for hospices all over Great Britain, but to launch a lottery specific to the charity sector, to help small and large charities with their lottery offering, giving them more pence in the £1 income from their existing operation and in turn providing a reliable regular income for St Helena.

2017 saw the launch of their new ‘make a smile lottery’ product, now with 4 charity partners on board and over 5000 numbers in the draw each week.

This clever way of working means that St Helena can produce a sustainable income and a good return on their investment. Their ethical way of working means that all proceeds of this lottery stay within the charity sector.

The winners of the 19th Annual Charity Times Awards will be announced at a ceremony in London on 3rd October 2018, celebrating best practice in the UK charity and not-for-profit sector.
