Much to the relief of those wanting to avoid the inevitable trip to the recycling centre this festive season, St Helena has launched the Christmas Tree-cycle to once again recycle real Christmas trees in return for a donation.
The charity is collaborating with Colchester Borough Council to recycle the trees and will have a large number of volunteers out to collect them on Saturday 12th January.
Lizzie Deed, Corporate Fundraiser at St Helena explained “The Christmas Tree-cycle is an easy way to dispose of your tree once it’s fulfilled its festive duties and you’ll be providing St Helena with much needed funds at the same time.
“Every penny will go towards helping local people face incurable illness and bereavement and just £10 could pay for home cooked meals for a day for someone staying in The Hospice this winter.”
Councillor Martin Goss, Colchester Borough Councils Portfolio Holder for Waste, Environment and Transportation, said: “We are really pleased to once again be supporting St Helena Hospice and their fundraising efforts by recycling the Christmas trees they collect. All the trees that are collected are recycled with our garden waste, and so kept out of landfill sites, which is fantastic. I would encourage residents to sign-up to for Tree-cycle which supports a local charity and helps the environment.”
St Helena is now taking registrations for those who already have Christmas on the mind! Sign-ups are being taken online at sthelena.org.uk/treecollect19.
The average donation last year was over £9, please donate generously this Christmas. Once you’ve registered, leave the tree/s outside the registered address and one of the volunteers will collect it/them on Saturday 12th January. For those who are dreading the Christmas carols, as it is only October, you can register closer to the time. Registration will close on 9th January 2019.
Lizzie added “This year, we are thrilled that the Christmas Tree-cycle is being sponsored by the Tree and Lawn Company which will allow us to raise even more money so we can care for the people that need us.”
Peter Cannon, Owner/MD of the Tree and Lawn Company based in West Bergholt, said “As a local company, the Tree and Lawn Company are well aware of the immeasurable support that St Helena provide to families and friends when faced with an incurable illness and bereavement. We are delighted to be invited to participate with their Tree-cycle collections for the 2nd year running and to also be able to make a donation for sponsoring this important fundraising event, in the knowledge that this not only benefits the local community but the environment as well.”
Last year, St Helena collected over 1500 trees raising £17,908 which was amazing and they are hoping this year will be even bigger! If you can volunteer your time for the collection or have a van you could donate for the day, please contact Lizzie Deed on 01206 931468 or email email@example.com.
