Last night (Monday 2nd July), St Helena Hospice scooped an award for ‘Most Innovative Fundraising Campaign’ at the National Fundraising Awards 2018 held at The Brewery in London.

The National Fundraising Awards, which takes place every year, celebrates the best of the best in UK fundraising and is the only awards that recognise and reward fundraising excellence and best practice in the charity sector.

Sarah Green, Director of Lottery Services at St Helena Hospice proudly accepted the award which recognises the outstanding achievements of the lottery team using their expertise and knowledge to extend their lottery services to the charity sector for the first time through the launch of make a smile lottery.

The lottery team, based at St Helena Hospice in Colchester, have successfully managed all aspects of running a lottery for hospices across Great Britain with Your Hospice Lottery, which to date has raised over £9 million for hospice care. It was a bold move for St Helena Hospice to launch a lottery product outside of the hospice world but this innovative approach is bringing charities closer together to provide a new source of income and an introduction to new supporters, whilst at the same time generating new income for St Helena Hospice to address unmet need for hospice care in North East Essex.

Sarah Green said: “I am both thrilled and proud to accept this prestigious award on behalf of the lottery team at St Helena Hospice. It is incredible to be able to acknowledge the hard work and dedication of our staff and volunteers on a national stage. Over the past few years our small team based in Colchester has built up much skill and expertise in the lottery fundraising sector, and we have taken the opportunity to use that to branch out and help other hospices and charities in Great Britain increase their income. We cannot run a successful fundraising lottery without the much needed support of loyal supporters who week in, week out provide a valuable regular income for their chosen hospice or charity. So, to all our amazing lottery players – this award is for you!”

She added: “All charities in this category have done such fantastic and innovative work, it was wonderful to be able to celebrate the outstanding successes of all our peers and we are privileged to be a part of that.”

Hosted bv comedian Stephen K. Amos, the annual awards gala for the Institute of Fundraising honoured remarkable achievements in fundraising over the past year. St Helena Hospice beat fellow finalists Aspire and Scope in the category of ‘Most Innovative Fundraising Campaign’ sponsored by Charity Checkout.
