April showers didn't dampen the enthusiasm of St Helena's Pier to Pier walkers on Sunday 7th April.
Around 1000 people walked 7 miles between Clacton Pier and Walton Pier - and many of them walked another 7 miles back to the Pier they started at - all to support hospice care.
Lisa Chenery, Events Fundraiser, said: "We had an amazing day and despite the heavy rain, there were smiles all round. A massive thank you to everyone who braved the weather to join us - you were fantastic and have made a difference!
"We are delighted we can offer participation in the Pier to Pier walk completely free of charge. All we ask is that participants raise a minimum of just £30 in sponsorship, so thank you to everyone who sponsored our walkers.
"A special thank you to our wonderful volunteer marshals who kept everyone safe and cheered them on during a soggy Sunday. We would also like to thank Tesco Clacton for their kind donation of hundreds of bananas to keep our walkers going and to Asda Clacton for donating hundreds of bottles of water to keep everyone hydrated. Not forgetting, thank you to the Beach Hut Kiosk, Walton, for kindly giving our volunteers hot drinks and snacks to keep them warm and to everyone who kindly opens up their beach huts along the route to support our walkers. The generosity of local people and businesses is wonderful.
"And an extra special thank you to Pickering for kindly sponsoring the whole Pier to Pier event."
St Helena helps local people face incurable illness and bereavement, in their own homes, through Day Therapies and at the Hospice. The participant who raises the most sponsorship and returns it to St Helena's Fundraising office by 7th May, will win an afternoon tea, kindly donated by the Kingscliff Hotel, Holland-on-Sea.
