Something you learn when working somewhere like St Helena is that making memories is so important and we truly believe in making every memory matter. Memories take us back to a time or place. They also remind us of people, relationships and feelings.
For some, Christmas can be a time of difficult memories, unhappy times and a place missing at the table but it’s also a time to make lots of wonderful memories and that’s no different for those who are staying at The Hospice or receiving care in their home.
Our staff and volunteers try to make it extra special for those receiving our care and people often say it’s the little things that make the most difference.
For one of our patients, Christmas was his favourite time of year but when it became clear that he wasn’t going to make it to Christmas, the tree in the garden was strung with lights and switched on in October so he could enjoy watching the twinkling of the lights through the window. A memory his family will never forget.
Will you make a donation this Christmas so families can continue to make every memory matter?
Many of you will already be part of our story and you will know what it means to be valued by St Helena and perhaps there is no price that we can put on such care but we want to help others make memories that they can treasure, memories that matter and bring comfort, memories that make up precious stories.
I had a planned admission into The Hospice for the Christmas period. There’s been a lot of fun and activities, we’ve had a fantastic Christmas dinner and they also wrapped up presents to give us on Christmas Day, which I thought was amazing. They always go that extra mile and do something that you don’t expect.
Please help our patients and their families by donating to our Tree of Memories appeal; an opportunity to give in memory of your loved one.
Wishing you a peaceful Christmas,
