We offer support to all those who have been bereaved in North Essex, regardless of the cause of death or where they have died. As grief is a very personal experience we offer a range of support tailored to the individual’s needs.

Many people manage their grief with the love, help and support of their family, friends and colleagues. However, some people may find they benefit from support from someone who is not closely involved in their life. Our goal is to be here every step of the way for people who need us, helping their life to go on in the face of bereavement.

We offer a number of groups at different locations in Colchester and Clacton designed to help provide advice, coping strategies, peer support and friendship for people who are still adjusting to living with grief. Our groups are welcoming and typically structured to run for 6 weeks. In addition we provide a number of informal and drop-in groups which provide an opportunity for people to share their experiences and meet others in a similar situation.

Our Bereavement Support services also include one to one support and counselling where needed over the telephone, in the person’s home or at one of our day therapies centres. We have a helpful and experienced team of Bereavement Visitors and expert counsellors able to offer appointments during the day and on some evenings.

Each summer and at Christmas we provide an opportunity for families and friends to remember and mark the death of their loved one within an informal setting at one of our memorial services.  These are a time of reflection, music and words together with a symbolic act of memorial.  There is an opportunity to talk to our Chaplaincy team or members of the Bereavement Support Team after the service. Families are sent open invitations prior to these events.

Without the help and generosity of our fundraisers and donors we wouldn’t be able to offer our Bereavement Support to hundreds of local people each year. We offer a number of ways that people can donate in memory of a loved one to help us to continue this support.

SinglePoint is a 24/7 advice and support helpline which helps to coordinate an individual’s care with the hospice. SinglePoint also works alongside other healthcare services such as GPs, Community Nurses or Specialists.
